Abstract

A new chloride iodate, K2Bi(IO3)(4)Cl, has been synthesized using hydrothermal method from the KIO3-BiCl3 system. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/c with unit-cell parameters a = 11.216(3) angstrom, b = 12.260(3) angstrom, c = 10.444(2) angstrom, Z = 4, V = 1352.2(5) angstrom(3). The material exhibits a three-dimensional structure consisting of interlocking iodide-linked infinite (infinity)[Bi(IO3)(4)] layer with interlayer potassium cations and chloride ions for charge balance. The powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the K2Bi(IO3)(4)Cl has been measured. Functional groups presented in the sample were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectrum. Thermal analysis and elemental analysis were also performed on the reported material.
